Alps

I've had a few ideas for the Alps, but have not yet tested them out.  Certainly you'd need to be properly acclimatised for many of the routes I'd like to try and climbing peaks has always taken priority.  However, I have completed the Ultra Trail Mont Blanc twice.

Running heaven

Ultra Trail Mont Blanc Race, 103 miles, 30,000 feet
Quality: ♪♪♪♪    Effort: ▲▲▲  Scenery: ♣♣♣♣  Seriousness: !

The Ultra Trail is the premier mountain running event in Europe if not the world.  Any serious long distance mountain runner has to do it once, if just for the tour de France like atmosphere.  Don't underestimate it.  Its not fellrunning, but it can be hot, the trails are hard under foot and its very, very long.  But the views of Mont Blanc are superb, the organisation is incredible and the support is unmatched.  If you can do it before the second night, you'll have a much easier time of it.  Otherwise, the second night will prove testing.  The first time I tried it I had shin splints and hobbled over the line.  the second time I was determined to do better and di so, avoiding the dreaded second night.

Phew - its all over
